If you have any form of dyslexia, you may have thought the title meant something about loving to hoard......which may have it's own post someday, but is definitely not today's subject.

I am talking about the hoarding of things gotten from people we love, items that were sent with love, items that we may not love per se, but are difficult to discard because they have such meaning.

The notes in the photo above were from right after my first son was born....in 1991.  The papers are dry now, but have been wet, and are mildewed, smelly......and I found them on the floor of my covered driveway after I had walked over them multiple times.  The guilt I felt at not having appreciated these paper proofs that friends and family loved me and my son.....this is what stopped me from throwing them away...at first.

Then I thought - if I take a photo, I will be honoring that love.  Because I really don't think the mildew is a good representation of my emotions.  At least I hope not.

So they are gone - not the sentiments, the smelly pieces of paper.  Gone with the .....garbage pickup.  (It would take a pretty big wind to get rid of so much paper!)

But the love is still there.  I have it in the remembrance of things wonderful past.  And now that I have a photo - and a post - I can remember the people again so fondly, without the mold.

And as for loving to hoard, I don't really.  It takes up too much time.....away from the things I really love..... those I love.

  1. Good and easy reading. With you recent realizations about hoarding and with the photo surrogates, I feel like I have passed Hoarding 101!
